Summertime in northern Michigan is a 10/10 experience

Honestly I hardly even had my phone in hand to take pictures, which was glorioussssssss - thankfully my SIL pulled out her camera a few times to grab most of these shots

Trip highlights included

- lunch at @9beanrows
- exploring downtown Suttons bay
- brunch at @blackstarfarms
- cherry picking at @cherryupick
- beach afternoon at mission point lighthouse
- renting a pontoon and spending the day out on the lake
- walking around downtown traverse city, grabbing coffee, devouring gluten free pie at @gtpie , book store perusing, and boutique browsing with my love while my kids went mini golfing with their fav aunt and uncle
- watching the kids build sandcastles and hunt for rocks on the beach (& honestly just listening to crashing waves and putting my feet in the sand)
- hiking the empire bluff trail & afternoon at esch beach (wowowow the VIEW!)

But most importantly spending uninterrupted time all together as a family, especially with my brother and SIL

though I will say, with kids this age, vacation feels a lot like more chaos parenting in another state than it does relaxation 🫠 but ya know, ~*FaMiLy MeMoRiEs*~

Still, if your trip this summer was filled with breaking up sibling squabbles and answering eighty bajillion questions and mealtime frustrations and overstimulation from interrupted routines… then well…. You are so not alone 🤪

I’ll be 14 weeks on Saturday and feel like I’m starting to come out of the first trimester hell. I felt pretty decent most of the day but definitely hit a WALL of nausea and exhaustion every evening

After a few months of being horizontal I also just feel completely physically and emotionally zapped, which was hard tbh

nonetheless, one million percent recommend northern Michigan… holy cannoli best weather ever and zerooooo bugs

I tried to follow the lines.

Like, literally—with rulers and pencil marks and a whole system my husband built to help me paint a wall mural “perfectly.”

(If you’ve been around a while, you might remember this story from episode 86 of Gather in Growth 🎙️)

But the more I tried to stay inside the lines, the worse it looked.

Rigid. Frustrated. Off.

So I did what I always end up doing when the rulebook stops making sense—

I erased the lines and trusted my hand.

And instantly… it was more fun.

More free.
More me.

That rainbow on my basement wall? It became a mirror for my entire journey.

Every time I’ve tried to run my business by someone else’s script…

Every time I shaped my offerings around what people said they wanted…

Every time I ignored my gut in favor of logic…

It felt heavy. Misaligned.

Like trying to force beauty into a box.

But when I trust my intuition?

When I follow the spark, the whisper, the wild idea that won’t let go?

It flows.

It lands.

It works.

You don’t need someone else’s template.

You don’t have to color inside the lines.

You get to create the thing your soul came here to make.

I’m writing to you from a local coffee shop, propped up with my AirPods in and zero energy left to pretend I’m not deep in the thick of it.

I’m 12 weeks pregnant and—if I’m being honest—it’s been brutal. First trimester for me has never been easy, but this time? It’s felt like a whole new level. I’ve been describing it as feeling hungover with the flu, from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to sleep. I’ve tried all the things. They help… like, 1%.

I cry a lot. I scroll too much. I’ve Googled symptoms of prenatal depression more than once. And I’ve had to grieve the summer I thought I’d have with my kids—the fun mom version of me who’s just not available after 5 p.m. these days.

But last week, something shifted.
I got to take my son to the camp I grew up going to. And as I watched my eight-year-old—the boy who once couldn’t be dropped off at preschool without tears—walk with confidence, laugh with his counselors, try new things, and lead the way… it hit me.

We made it through.
Not because we fixed it.
Not because we rushed it.
But because we just kept showing up. One foot in front of the other.

That’s the heartbeat of this week’s podcast episode.
