I truly love the month of December – it is so much fun, but it is also a LOT! I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. After celebrating Christmas with our families elsewhere, my family and I were looking forward to enjoying some low-key downtime back in our own home. Unfortunately…that couldn’t have been further from what played out.
I’m coming to you now on the other side of what I like to call ‘The Great Flood of ‘23’ that happened right after Christmas. To say it’s been complete CHAOS in my world lately (and water – sooooo much water), would be an understatement. Through this very unexpected (and really freaking hard) experience, I’ve learned some valuable lessons that I want to share with you.
In today’s episode, I want to talk about why your mindset matters – especially when sh*t happens that you totally didn’t plan on. I keep hearing from others about how brave, optimistic, and strong I’ve been throughout this entire process. While I’ve experienced a variety of emotions, I can tell that the personal growth I’ve done over the last few years to nurture my mindset has really come into play. I honestly can’t imagine facing this type of situation any other way! I fully understand that I DO have the capacity to do hard and (often) uncomfortable things, and I also know I’m not alone when I do, because I choose to surround myself with others who are striving for growth and intentionality in their lives too.
Maybe you aren’t dealing with a flood like I am, but you’re probably dealing with something, because, well..sh*t happens. Your mindset is never going to be perfect, but choosing to put in the work on yourself will make a HUGE difference when life goes haywire. This whole ordeal has greatly impacted our family, but my husband has been a superhero, my kids have been major troopers, and we’ve truly appreciated all of the love and support during this time. At the end of the day, we’re safe, and we’re together, and that’s what really matters!
In this episode, Sh*t Happens, Mindset Matters, we cover:
- The huge water leak that basically flooded our entire house right after Christmas + what our family is doing now as we work through this
- The personal growth and ‘work’ I’ve done over the last few years to truly nurture my mindset and practice intentional gratitude
- The very deep understanding I now have regarding my capacity to do hard things
- How much my perspective of the world has been impacted since working with others who are also striving for growth, intentionality, etc. in their lives
- Becoming more aware of my social media usage + gaining clarity on what ACTUALLY moves the needle forward in my business since having less Wi-Fi
- All of the ‘stuff’ we accumulate that we think is necessary, but really isn’t
- Learning that we really CAN do hard things, no matter the circumstances
