In the spirit of getting back into running and training for a half marathon, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to chat with you about doing something similar (or at the very least, committing to something that pushes you out of your comfort zone even more this year)!
I’m not someone who’s always identified as a runner, or even what you would consider ‘fit’. I was actually told that I should NOT run when I was a young girl due to asthma, and I’ve never felt super coordinated when I tried to do any type of athletic events. It really wasn’t until I was about 5 months postpartum with my second baby that I found myself in a place of truly loving and honoring my body with consistent movement, rather than viewing it as means to achieve a certain vanity metric. Honestly…my entire world shifted! From that moment on, I vowed to never pass on the ugly diet culture mentality to my daughter (or any of my children) that plagued me for too long. Instead, I was empowered to continue showing up for myself in a way that really mattered, no matter how hard, inconvenient, or out of reach it felt at the time.
In today’s episode, I want to talk about why you should commit to an endurance challenge. Running is such a beautiful example of how you can show up for yourself, and it’s also a powerful lesson in goal setting. While it’s one thing to say you’re going to run or train for a certain event, it’s an entirely different thing to actually commit, and do the dang thing! When you push past the limits of what you think is possible, it unlocks an entirely new capacity for what IS possible in your life. The muscles of grit and tenacity aren’t just ‘magically’ created after all – they come from doing difficult things. When you reach the other side, not only do you feel confident and triumphant in your abilities, but the mind-body-connection that comes from you doing this work is POWERFUL.
When you’re trying something new like running (or insert any type of endurance activity), it will feel daunting at first, but… it’s never impossible. One of the coolest things is seeing others who are doing the same thing, and realizing that if they can do it, YOU can do it, too. I’m always here cheering you on, no matter what you’re going after and training for in this season of life!
In this episode, Why You Should Commit to An Endurance Challenge, we cover:
- My journey to never feeling confident or coordinated doing any type of athletics, to a place of loving and honoring my body with running and regular movement
- Learning to set a goal that you can actually reverse engineer + why running is one of the most powerful lessons in goal setting
- Understanding what your priorities are and being okay with asking for help when you need it
- Growing the ‘muscles’ of grit and tenacity by doing hard things that you never thought you were capable of, but feel so proud of when you do
- The fantastic health benefits that come from running (or any type of endurance challenge)
- What my training plan looks like
