I’m excited to be joined by a fellow Illinoisan and good friend of mine, Mary Faber, on the podcast today!
Mary is the expert when it comes to all things bookkeeping – she’s definitely your go-to numbers girl! She’s passionate about helping her clients in the ag industry, those who are small business owners, and beyond. Mary never planned on going down the path of entrepreneurship and leaving the safe, cushy spot she was in with her corporate job, but..she’s definitely learned to ‘never say never’.
Mary has been able to do some incredible work on her entrepreneurial journey over the last 3 years, and she’s now stepping into the next season of her business. She’s excited to provide more people with the strong foundation they need for their bookkeeping, and help them to feel more confident about it over time. I can’t wait for you to hear about the fun things Mary has happening, and the true magic of evolving alongside your business!
Mary Faber is a Virtual Bookkeeper who works exclusively with QuickBooks Online and serves Rural Entrepreneurs from coast to coast. In addition to providing Ongoing Bookkeeping Services to her clients, she also teaches others how to utilize QuickBooks Online for their business. In addition, she recently launched her online course, Bookkeeping Essentials for the Rural Entrepreneur.
On October 1, 2020, Mary walked away from her job as a Controller for an Agriculture Cooperative without a plan. After a few weeks of reflection, she stumbled across the Virtual Bookkeeper idea. She put the fear of the unknown aside, and hasn’t looked back. Mary and her husband, Jesse, and two kids, Ava (11) and Eli (9), reside on their farm in Pontiac, Illinois.
In this episode about evolving alongside your business, we cover:
- Mary’s decision to leave her corporate MBA background without a plan, to then starting her virtual bookkeeping business
- The almost ‘delusional’-like confidence you need to have when it comes to pursuing entrepreneurship and leaving a ‘safe’ job with a steady paycheck
- Understanding what you actually want from your business, and learning how to navigate growth and changes along the way
- Struggling with ‘new levels, new devils’ when it comes to trying new (and scary) things, but choosing to do them anyway
- Being in tune with what you really enjoy doing in your business, and not being afraid to get support/outsource what you don’t
- The best, next steps to take if you’re feeling overwhelmed with your business bookkeeping
- Remembering to give yourself grace when you’re working through struggles and getting out of your comfort zone
