I’m excited to chat with a very fun guest, Brandi Buzzard, on the podcast today!
Brandi is a born and raised cowgirl from Kansas. She comes from a corporate background in the beef industry, but she’s since pivoted to being self-employed. Brandi likes to say she has a lot of ‘irons in the fire’, because she’s done everything from speaking and freelance writing to consulting, influencer partnerships, and even her own video series. Her path into entrepreneurship was definitely an unexpected one, and along the way, she’s learned that the most important work that she wants to focus on is being with her husband and daughters on their ranch.
Brandi and I dive into a variety of topics, like the collective ‘wake-up call’ that more and more people are experiencing in our society (especially post-pandemic), the hustle and always ‘do more’ mentality that many ag and farming families grapple with, being willing to start those really hard conversations with your loved ones when necessary, and more. There’s nothing wrong with wanting and doing more when it comes to your farm, career, finances, etc. But..at the end of the day, the MORE shouldn’t be taking you away from your family, and keep you working yourself into the ground forever.
Changing mindsets in ag is soooo not easy or comfortable, but choosing to have these deep and meaningful conversations is VERY much needed. This was a powerful conversation that went in a lot of different directions and sparked many ‘aha’ moments for me – I bet it will for you too, and I can’t wait for you to listen!
Brandi Buzzard is a cowgirl, rancher, public speaker, communications professional and wife. For more than a decade, she has also been a passionate agriculture advocate, while helping others share their agriculture stories. In 2019, her work in the professional and advocacy arenas led to her selection as a Top 10 Industry Leader Under 40 by Cattle Business Weekly as well as the NCBA Masters of Beef Advocacy Advocate of the Year. She has spoken on MSNBC, FOX, CBS, The Weather Channel and Newsy addressing issues like conservation, beef sustainability and nutrition. She has also visited the White House and spoken to senior White House officials about agriculture and sustainability. Brandi, her husband Hyatt, and their daughters Oakley and Quincy, live in southeast Kansas and own High Bar Cattle Company, a Gelbvieh/Balancer seedstock operation.
